The nicest guy in the world died on Christmas night
He wasn't rich, except in love
He wasn't famous, except for his stories
He was tall and handsome, a really good dancer
A snazzy dresser, always well turned out
But Hollywood didn't know him
Palmyra knew him, and Frankford, and Torresdale.
He attended his high school reunions
And the homecoming football game, every year
He loved parades, rode his decorated tandem on July Fourth
Had baseball season tickets, even after the strike
He was someone you could trust completely
Even though he was involved in Republican politics
He was a joker, a tease, so I know he wouldn't mind
Me getting that dig in, I think he'd laugh that
Even his death doesn't stop me from arguing politics
He'd tell me he knew I wouldn't like what he'd say sometimes
He wasn't afraid to tell you his opinion, or where you were wrong
But there was never an ounce of meanness in what he said to me
He didn't drink, rarely swore, slow to anger but watch out!
When someone or something got his goat
He was smart and tenacious and he didn't forget
He might forget his glasses, but never a face
He could run into some buddy he hadn't seen
In thirty or forty years and talk like it was yesterday
Remember their name, their street, their dog, their mother
Had he ever told you that story? The one about the dog?
He claimed his family, our Bud, our Jane, our Annie and Else
Our Billy and our Susie were the most important of all
And even though they bickered, and she played bingo
He always loved the most beautiful girl in the world
Wrote her video valentines, her life story in pictures
His home movies so carefully produced.
It seems hard that he left on Christmas
When he turned into a big kid every year
The rotating tree, ornaments arranged just so
The trains, the Hess trucks, the lights in the windows
A present for everyone under the tree
I know he had perfect faith, looked forward
To seeing his mother, father, brother, sister, son
All of the Mohicans together again
In their Presbyterian heaven, sharing a story.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
nicely done sis
